Main contents of the course cover basic knowledge, theories and methods as well as practical skills.\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">The course is organized with lectures and computer classes, with the purpose to deliver specialized knowledge in dynamic system modeling and analysis, and develop problem-solving skills in mechanical engineering. It is expected that this course lays a solid foundation for other engineering-related courses.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 15px;\">Instructions of the course will be consisted of in-class and out-of-class training in forms of lectures, discussions and researches to motivate learning interests and inspire innovative ideas. This course will also come with computer-based experiments (with Matlab) as well as multi-media tools.<\/span><\/p><p><strong>Lectures (32 credit hours)<\/strong> <br \/>1. Mathematics fundamentals (6)<br \/>1) Complex numbers and functions, magnitude and phase angle<br \/>2) Laplace Transformation: definition and properties, Laplace transform of common\/special functions, Laplace table<br \/>3) Inverse Laplace Transformation<br \/>4) Transfer Function Approach, block diagrams, relation between ordinary differential equation and transfer function<br \/>5) Pole and zeros, partial fraction expansion <br \/>3. Mechanical systems (8)<br \/>1) Lumped-parameter approach<br \/>2) Ideal elements and their constitutive equations<br \/>3) Linearization, introduction of nonlinear systems, Taylor expansion<br \/>4) Energy method, work, energy, &amp; power, modal analysis, mode shapes and natural frequencies<br \/>5) Transformer, power conversion\/flow, transmission mechanisms<br \/>4. Electrical Systems (8)<br \/>1) Ideal elements and their constitutive equations<br \/>2) Complex impedances, definition and properties<br \/>3) Operational amplifiers, transfer function and example of PID controller<br \/>4) Electromechanical conversion<br \/>5. Fluid and Thermal Systems (8)<br \/>1) Liquid-level systems, ideal elements and their constitutive equations<br \/>2) Definition of pressures and head<br \/>3) Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems<br \/>4) Linearization of fluid system, equilibrium\/operating point<br \/>5) Thermal systems<\/p><p><strong>Computer-based Experiments (16 credit hours)<\/strong> <br \/>1. Math fundamentals (4): Matlab programing for algebra calculation, matrix\/vector operation, Laplace transform.<br \/>2. Mechanical systems (4): Transfer function, toolbox for mechanics, plotting figures.<br \/>3. Electrical Systems (4): Optimal amplifier, introduction of Simulink.<br \/>4.
